Our Students

Youngsters from all walks of life are encouraged to join us and our students hail from our over the hill communities to Lyford Cay on the island of New Providence. Coming from government, private and home schools, their ages range from 7 years to 18 years old with females making up 35% of our student body.

Many of our students participate in our programs for the sheer pleasure of sailing, the enjoyment of being on the water and socializing with friends they have made while learning to sail.  In fact,we are happy to say thata number of them at the age of 16 and older have taken our Instructors Course and are now teaching with us.

A further source of great pride are our race team sailors whose passion for racing has led them to represent The Bahamas well at international events. Practicing up to 5 days per week, they work to prepare themselves for competing internationally at the highest level of junior sailing. They are true athletes – very fit and skillful- who understand the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play as well as the benefits of commitment and hard work.

Over the last 8 years, through their training and success at international events, four of our top sailors have made it onto college sailing teams in the US. Additionally, two have recently been accepted at boarding schools. All are on scholarships of some kind as a result of their sailing and they are:

  • Christopher Sands – College of Charleston

  • Brent Burrows – College of Charleston

  • Paul de Souza – College of Charleston

  • Spencer Cartwright – Roger Williams University

  • Tristan Eldon – Christ Church School

  • Jaxon Parker – Christ Church School
