Lewis's Caribbean Vision Takes Shape

Aug 19, 2025 - One year ago, Trinidad and Tobago Olympian Andrew Lewis and former Dutch national athlete turned visionary Niels Broekhuizen, now a resident of the Bahamas, presented a bold idea to World Sailing and leaders of the sport: the Caribbean is one of the greatest untapped regions for sailing talent in the world.

With more than 25 nations, tropical conditions year-round, rich athletic potential, and a proud sporting culture, Lewis and Broekhuizen have long believed that the Caribbean could rise to become a global force in sailing.
